Why a written reading, not a live one?

A live reading happens once, at a time that suits someone else’s schedule, and then it’s gone. You remember the gist. You don’t remember the exact wording, and the exact wording is usually where the useful part was. A written reading doesn’t have that problem. You get the whole thing, in full sentences, and you can read it again next week when the situation has moved on and you want to check what was actually said the first time. There’s no clock running while you decide what to ask. You get to write the question properly, and you get an answer that was written properly back.
